It should come as no surprise to anyone that we are having a mental health crisis in this country right now.
Now more than ever, we are feeling disconnected, unchallenged, and unfulfilled. As men, we are replacing genuine relationships, roles and experiences with booze, porn, social media and junk food.
And we are truly suffering because of that.
I fully believe that everything is connected. Physical health and mental health are the same, you can’t have one without the other. So it’s easy to see how men’s general decline in physical health over the last several decades shares a similar decline in mental health.
Are these two things connected? You bet they are.
While it is tough to pinpoint if low testosterone is a cause of depression, what is clear is that many of the things that cause low testosterone ALSO lead to depression and other mood disorders, like increased stress, poor sleep, being metabolically unhealthy, and lack of physical activity.
Sorry to sound all doom and gloom here gents, but it’s a serious topic that deserves a serious conversation.
The good news is, there is something we can do about it that doesn’t require a ton of money or a prescription pad.
So instead of talking about problems (we’ve all got 99 of them), let’s talk about solutions.
There are some really simple (and enjoyable!) things that you can do to help alleviate depression while also improving your testosterone balance.
Things that can improve your mental health:
Get 6,000 - 10,000 steps per day, every day (this includes all of your activity all day)
Take a 20-30 minute walk outside, every day (bonus points for ignoring your phone)
Carry a weight in your hands or in a backpack on your walk 3x per week
Lift weights at least 3x per week
Eat a whole food, nutrient dense omnivore diet
Prioritize protein at each meal
Go to be an hour earlier than you do now (nothing good happens after 10pm, anyway)
Make your bedroom a sleep sanctuary: No devices, TVs or bright lights
Your mental health is just as important to me as your physical health. The best part is, working on your physical wellbeing also helps your mental wellbeing, and vice versa. It’s a pretty great two-for.
Low testosterone is associated with lack of muscle mass, more body fat, hair loss, and erectile dysfunction, but also low mood and depression. So if you’re noticing any of those issues coming up for you, balancing your testosterone levels could be the way to get back on track.
My 1-on-1 programs are focused on bringing your testosterone back into balance and helping you get back to feeling like yourself again. If you’re ready to get to work, set up a free 15 minute discovery call to learn more.
Change can be tough, but prioritizing your health is an investment in your wellbeing for decades to come. I’m here to help make you healthier, more durable, and harder to kill, whenever you’re ready to go.
